Description

Some suggest we are entering the "post pandemic era" however COVID19 remains an ongoing concern for many patient populations and practitioners in the Canadian Health Care system. There are ever changing guidelines for the use of COVID19 vaccines and boosters as well as COVID19 treatments and therapeutics. We see vaccine & treatment deserts in the eligible populations. Understanding the utility of COVID19 vaccines & antivirals in practice will help remove additional patient barriers. The Community Pharmacist is well poised to recognize the patient population who would benefit most from COVID19 antivirals, able to employ strategies to address the DDI’s related to this therapy and contribute to improved patient outcomes using their knowledge and skills. Proactive planning in patient identification, medication management and patient consultation, is the next step in this ever changing pandemic landscape. Reducing the urgency of medication provision, with timely preplanning, will further improve patient access and outcomes.
