Ian is a passionate patient advocate and serves as the Director of Advocacy and Public Engagement for Obesity Canada. He draws on his academic background, professional training, and his personal lived experience to reach people living with obesity across Canada. His work helps advance Obesity Canada’s mission to change how Canada sees, supports, and understands people affected by obesity.

Ian obtained his PhD from Western University in Kinesiology and completed a Postdoctoral Fellowship at the University of Toronto. His research focused on Body Mass Index, obesity, and childhood physical activity.

Ian has also lived with obesity for the majority of his life, and is a post-surgical bariatric patient who now advocates both nationally and globally for improved access to care for individuals living with obesity as well as eliminating weight bias and discrimination.
