Description

In this session we will discuss the current landscape of cough & cold affecting pediatrics in Canada.  We will discuss the evidence, risks and benefits of OTC cough and cold medications and warnings about their use. We'll dive further into evidence for the use of natural health products and homeopathy.  Most importantly we will discuss patient autonomy and choice, parents fears and worries and the need to *do something* when their child is sick.  We'll break down barriers around evidence nihilism - empowering Pharmacists and parents to treat the patient in front of them and not just shrugging of shoulders.  In the post pandemic landscape, now more than ever, Pharmacists are wanting evidence-based solutions for health problems, while at the same time parents are searching for alternative and maybe even more "natural" ways to treat their kiddos.  This can lead to a contrast of values in the Pharmacy aisles and Kristen aims to bring patients and Pharmacists closer together by breaking down some of these old barriers and embracing a patient centered approach to symptomatic management of cough and cold in pediatrics.
