We need authentic relationships. Our patients need safe and caring relationships with us.  The relationship is still the single best predictor of therapeutic success.  Through the presentation of several real and challenging encounters with patients, this session will examine the mindset and skills needed to provide authentic patient-centred care, especially in time-limited environments.

After attending this session, participants will be able to:

• Identify key characteristics of caring relationships with patients.
• Explain why providing information and education to patients is often not sufficient for behaviour change.
• Differentiate between the characteristics of provider-centred approaches to patient care versus patient-centred approaches.
